The Coalition for Safe and Affordable Childrenswear, Inc., which represents nearly 130 small companies with more than 8,300 employees and $2.2 billion in revenue in the New York metropolitan area, supports strong and enforceable safety standards and applauds the steps that Congress and the CPSC have taken to protect our children. Unfortunately, the new law sets up roadblocks to compliance.  A key objection is to CPSC’s decision to apply these new lead standards retroactively.  Such a decision imposes substantial, and in some cases untenable, financial burdens on our companies, without any real benefit to public health.
